We will be switching things up with Topic Roundtables, offering a mix of focused conversations on key areas of game development.
Each table will be hosted by local game developers passionate about their craft, guiding lively discussions on various topics. It’s a perfect chance to dive deep into the subjects that interest you, all while connecting with fellow creators and expanding your network.
This event's topics will be:
- Industry: Game remakes or original titles? – Remakes often appeal to players who want to relive their favourite games in an updated way or on new platforms and audiences. Alternatively, reboots might completely reimagine an existing game franchise and make major changes to the original. Do you agree with these statements, and how should we balance these with new original titles?
- Art: Is realism important in games in the way it is the influence of film? – Should games use character-driven stories and action sequences like films? Does realism help players immerse themselves in the story and feel emotions? Photorealistic visuals can be beautiful and captivating, but does it matter in the long term?
- Design: What makes a game fun and addictive? – Is it a sense of accomplishment, surprise, or escapism? Reward systems? A sense of social connection? Art or graphics style, music of a game, engaging mechanics? Hooks like beating a high score, beating a rival, or completing the game?
Whatever your experience level—whether you’re just starting out or are a seasoned veteran in the industry—there’s a seat for you at the table. This event is all about sharing knowledge, sparking creativity, and meeting like-minded creators in a casual setting.
